myFootprint Analysis

The myFootprint "footprint analysis" program has been developed in partnership with Marilyn Farmer and greenbuildingpages.com(GBP) as a tool for customers to better understand the impact of their purchase by looking at carefully-investigated facets of a product's production, use, end-of-life, social, and misc. factors.

Production: The production category accounts for all encompassing inputs and resources used in the manufacturing of the good. Sub-categories include, but are not limited to, extraction impact, re-used content, renewable resource, and toxic material management.

Use: In this category, GBP looks at the installation, maintenance, off-gassing, resource consumption, and durability of reviewed products. Many of the impacts pertaining to the use of a product are case-by-case as purchaser behaviors vary; nonetheless, this category looks at the controlled variable relating to the products usability.

End-of-Life (EOL): What happens to the product after the end of it's usable life in it's existing form? This category looks at established reclamation programs and whether or not a product is "reincarnated" for reuse, recycle, or biodegradation.

Social: GBP believes in a hollistic approach to industry. As you will find in the bookCradle to Cradle, in the past, industry has neglected both environmental and social welfare for a "single-bottom line" view of economic efficiency. Looking at environmental and social wellbeing ensures long-term industrial prosperity. GBP is the only firm of it's kind that factors in a companies' social profile in the development of an environmental score. This category includes parameters such as: occupational health/safety, environmental policy, wage equity, gender equity, diversity, employment benefits, corporate generosity, and social chain of custody.

Other: This category was developed to include any variables (positive or negative) that are beyond the evaluation template. Some of such categories are certifications, testing, and achievement. In this section, GBP notes what percentage of information the company disclosed for review.

It is VERY IMPORTANT to note that the fewer footprints a product has within any given category the BETTER the rating is. We realize that this is quite opposite from the traditional star rating system; nonetheless, we hope that the small footprint concept speaks for itself.
